Right around the time Doyle and Marian moved to Long Creek from Clemson, in 2001, a small group began picking and singing on Sunday afternoons at Long Creek General Store. This group included Doyle and two of his cousins, Peggy Pelfrey and Lee Marcus, along with several others. Eventually, the picking was changed to Saturday nights and then to Friday nights at the store. When news of the store’s closing came, Doyle and Marian began making plans to build a new store building a few hundred yards down the road. While the building was under construction, they decided to dedicate a portion of it to a Music Hall. Thus was born The Silver Dollar Music Hall. Both Doyle and Marian enjoy providing a comfortable, pleasant environment for bluegrass pickers and singers, as well as audience members, to gather together each Friday night. It’s been a great experience for both of them and the friends they’ve made there are precious to them.
